In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day…

I’m in! A photo a day challenge that actually seems kind of fun.[via thegirlkyle]

I feel your pain little kid. I fell out of a wagon when I was a baby and my mom and grandma didn’t realize it for a few minutes as they kept walking.
Disney Moment of the Day: While performing “Mordecai” at the Doyle Lawson Bluegrass Festival in Denton, Josh Williams is joined on stage by a fine-feathered friend who is more than happy to sing along.
(Later requests to play “Free Bird” were promptly rejected.)

When the vet took chunk out of the room to get his mani/pedi, I looked up and the office cat had snuck in (wtf???) and was stealing from the treat jar. Ethical dilemma…pull the cat away from the jar so it doesn’t consume all the food or take a cellphone photo?
Look who’s back from Peace Corps-ing it up in Azerbaijan! I think it’s pretty amazing that we didn’t see each other (or even get to talk all that much) for nearly 2.5 years and yet Aaron is back and we’re back. WUDdies 4 lyfe.

i haven’t tumbled in forever because i feel like this! actually looking at that kid makes me want to take a nap on the keyboard. but i must finish my paper. i will upload some pics finally this week (haven’t uploaded pics to my computer in a few months, who am i?!?!) and write a post of substance. or maybe just a goofy picture of chunk. who knows.
everyone around me in this computer lab as i’m “trying” to write my paper can see my screen, i hope they’re enjoying the fact that i’m just sitting here looking at pictures of cute dogs.
Look At This Awesome Dog of the Day: Harper, an 11-week-old pit bull born with a debilitating disorder commonly known as “swimmer puppy disorder,” was found in a trash bag and brought to a shelter to be euthanized.
Dogs with pectus excavatum can’t walk and aren’t expected to survive, but Harper was lucky enough to find shelter regular Erica Daniel, who took the puppy home and, with a little TLC, slowly helped Harper learn to stand on her own four paws.
Daniel admits falling in love with Harper was not what she had in mind — “I’d planned on taking her home that night,” she told NBC’s Today, “letting her sleep in bed with us, and having her humanely euthanized in the morning” — but felt she couldn’t just give up, especially after seeing Harper’s determination to walk around on her own.
“The whole world was against her, but she’s such a fighter,” says Daniel. “She’s a blessing. She’s awesome.”

A net strung above George St. last night.
Shot this with one hand out my window as I drove underneath it. Dangerous skillz.
my favorite library has changed up their computer lab layout so that when you type you are STARING at the person in the cubicle facing yours but my how most things don’t change.
here i am blogging. trying to remember websites i want to look up. coming up with to-do lists when i should obviously be achieving the item that has put me in this spot. gchatting. sending rambling, pointless emails. checking and double checking my phone. rechecking the due dates so see if i really need to write this paper today.
grad school is an investment in my future
grad school is an investment in my future
grad school is an investment in my future
that’s my mantra when i am in this bizarro lab and the person in the cubicle facing mine is eating a ho ho with their mouth open and all i want to do is go eat some pizza and lay on the couch with Chunk instead of writing insightful papers and watching someone enjoy their afternoon snack.
This argument happening at UW-Madison right now is driving me insane. It’s important to listen to and take into account opposing sides to this argument on Affirmative Action in college admissions and I hear where this student is coming from. I strongly support affirmative action. Having a diverse educational environment is enriching and makes for a well-rounded education. So here’s the thing: merit-based admission is the ideal. However, we all know (okay, most of us seem to know…) that race plays a major factor in education from the quality to location of schools. Without long and hard work, this isn’t going to change anytime soon. So that’s why we have Affirmative Action in the first place. To provide students who may have faced obstacles in achieving a quality education an opportunity to succeed, to go to school somewhere they may not have been able to if their SAT scores and GPA were the only factors in admission. Having the presence of students of diverse backgrounds (ethnic, socioeconomic, sexual orientation, etc) make us ALL better students, give us ALL the education for which UW-Madison is known. We need to walk a mile in each other’s shoes and realize that the different paths that led us to UW-Madison are the reason we are a great school. We shouldn’t be blocking these paths, only creating and welcoming new ones.
